A little break in the wind provided a window to get out and do some Salmon fishing. I have been finding good action this season in the southern parts of MA 10. 4″ spoons behind flashers have produced best. Some very nice have been hitting the decks lately, with very few other anglers out on the water. We have til the end of the month for this local fishery.

Winter Steelhead

Wild winter weather over the Pacific NorthWest! We have had some very good fishing days on the OP the last few days, and some awesome scenery as well.

Winter Steelhead and Chinook

Winter steelhead fishing has been very good on the Olympic peninsula rivers. We have been targeting hatchery steelhead in the Hoh and Bogachiel rivers with great success. Side drifting, float fishing, fly fishing have all produced well.

Winter king salmon fishing (blackmouth). Has been very good at times in marine area 10. Flashers and spoons fished in and around the bait has been producing some good Blackmouth.

Fall Salmon and Steelhead on the Olympic Peninsula

Salmon season on the Olympic Peninsula rivers has been fair to good at times. We have been targeting the Hoh River and Bogachiel for a mix of Coho, Chinook and a few Steelhead are starting their journeys up the rivers. We have been hitting good numbers of salmon on the www.wickedlures.com. These little neutral weighted spinners are great for getting down in the fish zone and enticing the fish. Steelhead will be showing with force over the next few months, The hatchery run will peak in December. Bait divers with sand shrimp or floats and shrimp, can be the ticket when searching for these fish. We will be booking trips for these fish over the next month.

Wicked Lures hits another

I returned last week from another trip up in to the northern parts of British Columbia. We fished hard for 10 days and found many willing steelhead, some very large fish as well. The weather could not have been more perfect.

Pinks and Coho have been hot in Puget Sound

Very good fishing over the past week for a mix of Coho, Pink and Chinook Salmon. Some very nice Ocean run Coho have been hitting the decks lately, as well as some larger resident fish. We have had some good action on King salmon at times, but this season seems to be a bit of a head scratcher for these critters. All methods have been producing well, I would have a cut plug Herring out the back on a 4 oz weight. This set up has been catching some great fish. Pinks wil be pouring into areas like Shilshole Bay and Elliot Bay over the next month.

Kings, Coho, and a few Pinks are biting in Seattle

Fishing has been good in the central part of MA 10 over the past week. We have found good numbers of Resident Coho in the central Sound areas. Trolling 10-45′ with a white Hootchie and UV blue hotspot flasher has produced for us. The Chinook fishing has been good at times and left us scratching at others. With the reports I have heard up North, I would expect more Kings are on the way. Pinks are starting to make a showing in the Shilshole bay area.

Seattle area Chinook opens in the morning.

Chinook salmon season opens in MA 9 and 10 July 16th. We will see thousands of sportfishers moving into the marine areas to catch the mighty Chinook Salmon. The C&R season in MA 10 was as good as it gets if you were on the bait and feeding fish. I would expect good catch rates in the nothern reaches of area 9 and 10. Fish have been shallow one day and deep the next. Resident Coho fishing has been as good as it gets. Fish have been 20-30′ in depth in the 300-700′ depths of the Sound. Remember the Boaters Safety Card is in effect, if you fall in to the age range of requirement you are subject to fines if not currently holding the document. Hail to the Kings !

Hatchery fish are on the move through Puget Sound. Lets hope this keeps up for the opener. We have had some days that rival any of the best fishing in AK or BC. Flashers and spoons have produced best.

Fishing in the MA-10 bubble has been very good over the past week. We have had some double digit mornings on King Salmon and a few nice Coho in the mix. We have been catching most of our fish shallow, which makes for a great fight. Flashers and Spoons have produced best for me fished at 50-70′ in 80-110′ of water. Plugs have been producing as well, we fish these primarily on the bottom. True that it is hard to release all these beautifull hatchery Chinook, I would rather catch fish and eat Burgers than to not fish at all. This is a great sign for the upcoming retaining Salmon.

In the past 4 trips we have landed 18 Chinook all but 1 were hatchery marked fish.

Ling Cod season ends on the 15th of June. This has been a great fishery this year, some very good sized Lings have been landed over the past month. Live bait has been producing the best action. We have a few more days left, and some good tides to get them on.

Catch and release fishing opened on the 1st of June in the north part of MA-10. We have had some decent action for Blackmouth (chinook) and a few resident Coho. The main part of the Salmon season gets going on the 1st of July with the opener for Coho retention, and then on the 16th for Chinook. We should start seeing good numbers of Pink salmon around by the end of July. Pink salmon arrive by the millions (2 mil) or so are expected back into Puget Sound watersheds this summer. This is a great fishery for children and those looking for good action. Pink salmon usually average 2-4lbs with bigger fish in the 5-8lb range. The limit on Pinks is 4 per angler or a combination of 2 hatchery Chinook and 2 pinks, or 2 coho and 2 pinks.
